Your Local Gritting Company FAQs & Advice.

Our most frequently asked questions from customers about gritting services.

Why is a gritting service important?

Gritting is crucial for ensuring safety and accessibility in icy and snowy conditions. It helps to prevent accidents, maintain access to properties, and allow daily activities to continue smoothly during winter weather.

02/

How often is winter gritting performed?

We grit in the evening as it is typically more convenient for our clients when sites are mostly clear of majority of staff and vehicles. Evening gritting, based on the weather forecast, ensures that the ground is prepared for staff arrival the next day.

06/

How often is gritting carried out?

The frequency of gritting depends on weather conditions. We use weather forecasts and real-time monitoring to determine the best timing for gritting operations. We receive a daily 24-hour forecast from our weather provider, which helps us decide which sites require service for that night. Sites are activated for gritting when the Road Surface Temperature (RST) is forecasted to be 0°C or below.

07/

What happens if it snows after we have gritted?

Gritting helps reduce the risk of ice forming and improves traction across your site. However, if heavy snow falls after treatment, it may need to be cleared before the area can be re-gritted effectively. Our snow clearance service covers car parks, access roads and footpaths when winter conditions become more severe.

08/

What type of salt do you use?

We use high-quality white rock salt for most of our gritting services, which is effective in melting ice and providing traction on slippery surfaces. White salt is a much cleaner product helping keep internal building carpets clean from staining. Our salt is sourced from reputable suppliers to ensure optimal performance and safety.
